(New Orleans, LA) – The Humane Society of Louisiana has partnered with Heaven’s Pets at Lake Lawn Metairie to commemorate the loss of animal life and celebrate the nation’s largest animal rescue operation during Hurricane Katrina.  Ms. Bonnie Porrier, a pastor at ministry with St. Francis of Assisi will conduct a blessing for the animals at Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery, starting at 11 am, followed by a wreath laying ceremony.

“As we approach the 10 year anniversary of Katrina, we are taking this opportunity to reflect on what happened to all of us and our animals during Katrina.  It was an extremely difficult time, but it helped us all grow as individuals, as a community and a state.  Our nation’s greatest tragedy brought us together and we remain in partnership with animal lovers around the country, and for that we are grateful,” says Jeff Dorson.

“They are our friends and our family and provide us with unconditional love.”, says Patrick McCausland  “As we mark the 10th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, we wish to honor those that left a paw print on our
hearts”

The services are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.  Leashed pets are encouraged to attend. There will be tents, folding chairs and water stations for the pets available.

The Humane Society of Louisiana is one of the State’s largest animal protection organizations.  For more information, please call 1-888-6-humane or visit www.humanela.org.
